In the meantime, experts suggest that parents limit the use of mobile phones by their children. A report by the Independent group of Experts on Mobile Phones, in Britain, led by Professor Sir William Stewart, explained that children have nervous system that are still developing. Therefore, if cellular phones are harmful, children will suffer more damage from exposure to radiation.
The same report, however, also concluded that with the research available so far, there is probably a biological effect from mobile phone emissions, but there is no conclusive evidence of an adverse effect on humans. The report suggests that a further review be done in three years’ time.
Play it Safe
So it all boils down to “you know the risk, so take it or leave it”. According to one expert, the public can choose to adopt cautionary measures.
First, use common sense. For example, there is really no need for long stretches of time. They can switch to another pone when they are not on the move.
Another bit of advice is to not use the phone with a hands-free kit, thus making it transmit out of your pocket. This way, your phone has to work harder than it is designed to, to transmit signals – generating more radiation close to your body.
“When mobile phones are operating at full power – this only happens about 10% of the time – there could be slight biological effects,” says another expert. “There are some people who report symptoms from using cellular phones, but we are very uncertain that they are derived from the radioactive frequencies.”
